I hope you fail (yes, I mean it).

Oh dearest reader… it’s very important that I start this week’s newsletter with this:
Please, fail.
Yes, you read that right. I hope you fail at things.
Let me back up.
You know when I felt the most miserable in life?
Well, aside from that one time I had some street market food in Indonesia that didn’t agree with me (I'll spare you, it's TMI) - it was when I felt stuck.
When I was in a promising career that had me hide tears and in the bathroom stalls a little too often, that’s when I was the most miserable.
But you know what?
For a while I didn’t really know why. I didn’t know what was going on.
I thought I was an ungrateful little brat who just needed to push a little harder.
The truth, however, was that I just didn’t know what else to do…
At some point my insides screamed THIS AIN’T IT but that didn’t mean that I knew what else was…
And yes, that terrified me.
I felt like my life was an hour glass, time was running out, except - I didn’t know what to do with the time I did have.
Week’s went by and I just felt paralyzed by fear.
Fear of the unknown, fear of what would happen if I actually made a change, and most of all, fear of failing at that very thing I had yet to figure out.
I was torn between surrendering into the life I had built and taking the leap towards something that just felt like a huge question mark.
In other words, I was stuck.
The irony?
That very fear is what delivered me the thing I actually was afraid of: Failure.
One day, it hit me in the face like a brick.
Being stuck and allowing yourself to stay stuck - THAT is failure.
The realization was visceral. You know when something so obvious finally drops down into your body and only then you realize how much truth it has carried all along?
What is it for you?
A relationship?
A profession?
The place you live in?
And look, of course I kind of rolled my eyes at it because I mean, come on… isn’t this something you should put on a bumper sticker?
“What if I fall, no but what if you fly?”
Really…? The cynic in me still goes, sure, with a gentle smirk.
Let me say this: have you ever asked for something knowing full well it was going to be a long shot and the answer would likely be no but then they said yes?
You were really surprised but also super pleased with yourself because things just turned out so much better than you had imagined…?
Well that would have never happened if you hadn’t asked.
Because - cheesy and bumper-stickery or not - the answer to the questions you don’t ask is no.
Doing nothing, leads to nothing.
And that, my friend, is failure.
Have I had to remind myself of exactly that about a million (and counting) times every time I (thought I) fucked up ever since I launched my business?
Uhm, yeah.
But not getting the results, messing up or just plain and simply realizing that you suck at something… is not failure.
It’s learning.
It’s progress.
It’s information.
And informatin is knowledge, and knowledge is power.
One more thing before I leave you…
I have “failed” more times in the last year than I probably have in the last 30 before, but you know what?
I have also, never been happier.
I have never felt more in control and connected to my mind and body than when I have decided to not be stuck anymore.
If you’ve made it this far and are still reading, please let this be what you take into this week:
Where can you go and fail?
Where can you go mess up and then dip into gratitude because that is literal proof of you not being stuck, of you doing the opposite of failing?
…and if you still feel like you might be a little stuck, give me a call - I got you!
Love,Mel💕
