This makes me want to punch people and what a puppy has to do with it.

I have a serious question, one that I really don’t have the answer to.

What do you do when it’s all too much?

What do you do when all you can think about are the next 10 things you have to get done just in order to keep up with the life you have?

And I’m talking things like….buy bread (because I forgot when I was standing in the bread aisle),

pay that bill,

get to work on time,

try not to F up at work,

go to that dinner reservation with your friends (and no you can’t cancel because it took you 2 months to even find a date),

remember Lisa’s birthday (who is Lisa? Idk but I have to go to her birthday party…),

not forget that doctor’s appointment and stop feeling guilty about having 147 unread WhatsApp messages.

Yeah…

On top of that, maybe you have kids? Do you have kids?

If so, don’t forget about your kids.

You feel me?

And then, if you have a uterus, every like two weeks (but it feels like 5 minutes) your luteal phase comes around. That bitch.

She just shows up in your life with a jackhammer and, from one day to another, she screams:

ALRIGHT, FROM NOW ON FOR THE UNFORESEEABLE FUTURE YOU’RE GONNA FEEL LIKE THE BIGGEST FAILURE WHO’S EVER LIVED.

BAM.

What?

I just felt like I have my life together (aka would not forget to buy bread this time) and now I just want to curl up on my couch and watch a shitty dating show???

Seriously, who came up with this?

Okay, so while I could go on and on about how my monthly cycle messes with me constantly and makes me either very funny, super sappy or a tad dramatic, this is not a newsletter about hormones.

It’s about the flow of life (and no, that was not a period joke).

Has anyone ever told you:

“Just go with the flow”?

Did it also make you want to punch them in the face?

Look, I’m a “but when does the flow start, where does it go, do I need snacks and for God’s sake what is the dress code??” - kinda gal, ESPECIALLY in the second half of my cycle.

(And I’m sprinkling this info in because there is just simply not enough awareness around what actually happens in a female body, so if you’re a man reading this and think “this does not concern me”, oh but honey, it does…).

So back to the question:

What do you do when it’s all too much?

Let me tell you about a day I had this week.

It started off with really bad sleep (anyone else??), so I woke up feeling the opposite of refreshed and energized. Coffee was my lifeline because I knew it was a big day, I have a lot to do, jam-packed schedule and I want to bring my A game.

It was workshop day - the first Feminine Expression (spoiler, it was soooo good and yummy and omg I love what women can create when we come together, more on that later) - but I also had some meetings, final prep stuff to do, it was going to be FULL ON.

After my meditation and breakfast I go downstairs to get some laundry when I hear a dog whining in my neighbor’s apartment. What?

Then I see the note on the door: “We’re so sorry we had to leave her for a bit, major last minute schedule clash, we’ll be back as soon as we can, she has food and water but if she’s whiny - the door is open.”

So obviously I text my neighbor and tell her: I am taking your dog to my place and also how dare you not have asked me for help?!

She gave me some, I know you were busy, bla bla spiel…that’s something to unpack another time, the point is:

NOW I HAD A PUPPY TO TAKE CARE OF.

WHAT?

While she was the sweetest thing that ever lived, I had NO TIME to blow dry pee stains out of wooden floors that day (at least not according to my calendar).

What a flipping curveball?? Thank you Universe.

But it made me think…

Is that what people mean when they say… Just go with the flow?

Just take on the unpredictable currents and waves of life?

Control the things you can and surrender to the things you can’t?

Learn to be ok, even if things don’t go your way?

Maybe even see the lesson in everything that does come your way?

Was I being reminded of all that's potentially more important than replying to every single email that day?

Maybe.

Did a sweet little puppy at my feet that followed me everywhere I went certainly force me to be more present and in my body than I may have been otherwise?

Probably.

Would I now likely agree that, even if at first it all seemed like terrible timing, it was a blessing in disguise and just what I needed?

Yeah…

So let’s come back to this question one more time:

What do you do when it’s all too much?

Well, the answer still isn’t so straightforward, but I think a good start might be to learn to be ok with what is….and what isn’t.

So I want to leave you with this question:

When it’s all too much and (inevitably) you’re not getting everything done (because you can’t, it’s impossible, what does everything even mean??),

what is it that you didn’t do?

And what is the true consequence of that?

What is it that you did do and what is the consequence of that?

So for me that day…

What I didn’t do: answer as many emails as I wanted to, go over all my workshop details for the 10th time.

What I did do: got so many unexpected puppy cuddles, fresh air on short walks, learned that a blow dryer actually does help with water stains on wooden floors…

And you know, I’m happier with the things I did do, even though they were NOT on my bingo card for that day….all because, OMG, I went with the flow??

You got this!

Have a great week!

Love,

Mel
