What in the fire horse?

So apparently we have now entered the year of the fire horse and if you don’t really know what that is supposed to mean then I can tell you this:
Yeah same.
I don’t exactly know what that means but according to the Chinese zodiac system that’s the year we are in now, as of Feb 17th that is.
What was last year? You may ask…
The year of the snake.
Ok, ok but why does any of this matter?
Or better - why should any of this matter to me?
Great question.
The short answer is: it doesn’t.
Or it doesn’t have to.
But I get curious about these kind of ancient wisdom traditions.
Why?
Well, because A. I believe that there is a lot of knowledge that is carried in them, a deep rooted knowing that we have completely lost touch with today, and who am I to discredit that?
And B. I actually think it’s kind of arrogant of our society to put something down we can’t scientifically explain just because of exactly that - we can’t scientifically prove or disprove it.
So we laugh it off just because there is no formula or you never read about it in a schoolbook? If that were the only thing we’d rely on, well, we’ll be in a lot of trouble…anyway, I digress.
The truth of the matter is that there are a lot of wisdom traditions, ancient philosophies and belief systems out there that are far away from being widely accepted let alone proven, many of them are still labeled as woo woo.
Look, some of them actually may be complete BS, sure, but a lot of them have served humanity in ways that we, in our society today can probably not even get close to comprehend.
So, my ask of you this week is this (if you aren’t already, and since you’re reading this you very well may be and I love you for it):
Open yourself up for newness.
To explore.
Try out new things.
Let yourself feel things you’ve never felt before.
Cause, honey, if there’s some truth to this fire horse year we may just be in for a ride (pun a little bit intended).
Did you just go? - Ok fine but WHY?
Well...
Here’s how I try to find value in things I don’t fully understand: I ask myself this one question…
(& this is true beyond the Chinese zodiac system btw).
How can I make this relevant to me?
What can I take away from this that adds value to MY LIFE?
In this case it’s the following:
The fire horse stands for independence, power, forward motion, action, rebellion, adventure, passion….
So if this is the energy that is moving towards us this year - globally, socially, personally?
Let me ask you this:
How can you relate to it?
What do these themes mean for you personally in your life?
What aspects of it do you want to invite in?
What resonates, what doesn’t and why?
If you feel called, these are some great questions to reflect and journal on… who knows, maybe now you think there’s nothing here for you, but sometimes we surprise ourselves by just putting pen to paper and express what comes through.
To close this newsletter I will leave you with what it means to me personally:
It’s not about how fast I move, how groundbreaking my steps are - as long as I keep taking them. Steps that feel right FOR ME. Baby steps. No matter how small, they count.
Whatever feels like progress, whatever feels like moving towards my goals, that counts, that’s all.
And yes, sometimes, that is taking a nap - most of the time though, it’s doing a yoga nidra for myself. 😉
…which brings me to (see what I did there? 😘) sharing a reminder with you that my Nidra Reset offer is still running, check out the details HERE and most importantly: get your FREE Taste of Yoga Nidra right HERE.
Have a wonderful week!
Love,
Mel
