Poem: An honest look at Christmas...

She woke up in fear
oh my
the year
it’s almost gone
did I tell everyone how much loved them?
or was it just on their birthday?
When someone asks me
are you happy?
Do I smile the biggest smile and say
yes, yes oh I am so very blessed
or do I drop my gaze, say
of course I am, it’s just I wish I wasn’t so stressed,
all the time
I seem to chase
from place to place
and sometimes I am not sure what I am after
or if it’s time
that’s after me?
And there’s a little secret
I don’t really know how to tell anyone
but year after year
it seems so clear,
there’s that little voice who asks
did I do enough?
yeah this year was tough
but tell me, did I do enough?
All the things that are now in the past
tell me,
will someone remember?
Will they last?
Or will they flee
like tonight’s candles on the tree?
The fear that woke her up
now leans back.
Magically makes space
another voice shows up and gently speaks:
My love, there is no race
there’s nothing to win,
when you let your head spin
this world it’s wide,
your breath is deep,
there’s love all around us,
oh so vast.
It’s just that you miss it when you keep going so fast
but the good news, this love,
it won’t go anywhere
cause it’s not just love, it’s peace, connection and the kindest care.
Maybe that’s the true gift you’ve been
waiting for.
So please, my love
Today, once more on the number 24,
The peace, the space, the rest, the letting go,
it’s not just for show.
Even though the twinkly lights look pretty,
we’ll put them away
but my wish for you this year is that you’ll remember,
all that love around
it’s here to stay
because you know
the rumors are true,
it’s been there all along
right within
you.
Yours always,
Mel ❄️
